December Meeting

Ron welcomed all to the meeting and thanked all for attending.  There were 23 members present at the December meeting.  Guests present were Erika & Klaus (Marcus' parents).  Apologies were received from Keith Nicol, Jean & Steve and Neil and Christine.

Last months trip to Corvera's airport perimeter was enjoyed by all those who attended and it gave Members a chance to see the location and the idea of the travelling time it will take to get there, with it being further in than San Javier airport.  The run was good with a start on the motorway and then taking in a few villages followed by a good meal.  Thanks to Colin & Mo and Keith & Sue for organising this.

Ron advised Members that although the Club was formed in 2006 and legally registered in Alicante as a non-profit making club, it was never registered with Torrevieja Town Hall, which Ron discovered when he went to register for the Associations day on 4th December.  However, with a little help from Graham Knight, we are now fully registered with the Town Hall and we will be invited to future events held in Torrevieja.  The Associations Day on 4th December was a great success.  We had 10 cars on display on the paseo in front of the "Hombre del Mar" statue.  The Town Hall had made a banner which was strung between two palm trees and stated that we were part of the Associations Day and was both in English and Spanish.  Watch the papers for news on this event!  Ron felt that it was important that we were there and he had received good feedback from Graham Knight - he was impressed!

John Wallis gave an update on the changes to our website, due to it being a little out of date.  He has met with Keith Nicol and Ron and the website has now been re-vamped with new information and new pictures.  There is also a translation button, which will translate items to German and Spanish.  John asked Members to have a look at the website and give him some feedback, also if the German members could test out the translation button.

Pictures from the Associations Day will be added.  Ron thanked John for his work on the website as he has spent a lot of time on this and it will be updated monthly.

John Wallis and Gaynor have been looking at ideas for future trips and as some Members struggle to come up with ideas of what to do/where to go, John and Gaynor have come up with 7 ideas for future trips and John asked for 7 volunteers to pick a choice of trip and organise it.

John is organising the January run to Cabo de Palos, Ron is organising the Almond Blossom run in February, which leaves Caravaca, Fonts D'Algar, Sierra Espuma park, Chocolate Fctory, Historic Vehicle Museum, the Caves and the Salt & Pepper Museum.  Volunteers were requested for these runs to help share the load with organising the trips.

John advised that a "reccy" is required which may involve 2 trips and choosing a restaurant.  These events are being organised as follows:
March - Chocolate Factory at Villajoyosa, Tom & Gill,
April - The Caves, Keith & Sue,
May - Fonts D'Algar, Joseph & Evelyn, June - Historic Vehicle Museum at Guadalest, John & Gaynor.

January's run will be on 29th and the Almond Blossom run will be on 19th February.  Mike advised that he had been looking at organising a trip to the Mines at La Union.  Ron advised Members that as the International Marina will be closed for the holiday season, our meeting in January will be held on the 18th.

December 28th - Innocentes Day - once again, we shall be holding our annual "silly driving skills" day.  Ron has applied to use the car park at the Soria Antonio park in Torrevieja, which is near the Aquapark.  At last years event, following the driving skills, we all had a round of crazy golf and a meal - Ron asked Members if they would like to do the same again this year and the response was unanimous.  If anyone is interested, fancy dress may be worn, but this is optional and not a requirement!

Any Other Business
Ron advised that we need to cap the number of cars in the Club as up to 30 cars is a struggle when trying to keep together on runs and can also prove difficult when trying to organise a restaurant.  We currently have 34 cars in the Club.  Ron advised that prospective members will go on a waiting list.  This is felt to be necessary as there have been problems in the past which caused a split in the Club and Ron has no intentions of this happening again.

Muriel gave a "birthday update" - Maria and Olli celebrated their birthdays in November and this month we have Erika and Albino - Happy Birthday to you all.
